About Beanbag

Developed in the welfare-class suburb of Stephens on the Gold Coast, Australia, beanbag is best described as "lounge music for people who can't afford lounges". Generally played at a reasonable volume, beanbag allows for conversation while providing convenient filler during awkward moments of silence.

While its origins are unclear, it is understood that beanbag is a recent musical development. Beanbag officially debuted to the public at a small alternative arts club in Southport, Gold Coast, known as "the arc" in the beginning of 2003. At that show were two disc jockeys who hosted a radio programme dedicated to experimental music with a mellow twist called "pink noise". The rest, as they say, is history.

This site contains a list of artists who produce works in the genre, their releases, as well as information about live beanbag music performances and shows. This site is being continually updates, so please check back often for new information and further details.
